Established on April 1st, 1975, by Cary and June Swan, The Swan Agency handled both insurance and real estate sales. After working in the family business through high school, Kim Swan obtained her real estate license as a college freshman. In 1994, she purchased the real estate side of the company, and The Swan Agency - Real Estate was born.

The successful mission to affiliate the best brokers and administrative staff in the business resulted in residential and commercial sales growing at an impressive rate in the Bar Harbor office. A second component was added to The Swan Agency - Real Estate in 1995, Maine's Lodging Brokerage. The niche market of inns/bed and breakfasts sales on Mount Desert Island was broadened to represent the properties throughout the entire state of Maine.

In an effort to broaden their market share across Mount Desert Island, it became apparent that a branch office in Northeast Harbor was needed. The Northeast Harbor office opened its doors in July 2004 to meet increasing demands. In 2010, Swan Agency Real Estate formed the Greater Portland Group, to better represent properties in Kennebunkport, Cape Elizabeth, Greater Portland, the Mid-Coast area and beyond. In 2022, the Agency further expanded its horizons to include a Sullivan and Southwest Harbor Office. The most recent office opened in 2023 on Swan's Island.

As the company reached it's 50th year in business in April of 2025, Kim decided to celebrate the impressive milestone and then re-chart the future of the business. In July of 2025 Kim had found the ideal path forward by merging Swan Agency with Dava Davin's Portside Real Estate Group. Long a fan of Dava's company, management style and philanthropic arm, she knew she had found the perfect hands to entrust the future of the company and the valued associates.

Today, Kim maintains her brokerage role with the company as a member of the Swan Agency Private Brokerage Team of Portside Real Estate Group in it's Northeast Harbor office.
